Eating Cheaply in Glasgow

As a General rule one should avoid any city centre or high tourist spot to eat well and cheaply. This rule holds good throughout the world. However Glasgow is very lucky in having a very small tight, high tourist, city centre and the "Real" local restaurants are only a few yards away.

Typically a main and glass of wine will set you back about £20 ($24.00/E22.50). Not overly expensive really. However if your on a tight budget then even that might be a stretch. So what about £1.50 ($1.80/ E1.70) for a soup or £4.50 ($5.40/E5.09) for a coffee and burger. Ok these are food on the go, no frills, no table, street food. But hey what a saving.

So starting at the bottom, price wise.

The Glasgow Barras, open Saturday Sunday and some of the little street kiosks every day. East end of Glasgow Just off the London Road and Gallowgate. Cafe Val D'oro Lonodon road  at Glasgow Cross), McDonalds Bakery (Trongate) (not that other McDonalds) and various little Kiosks all over this area. A fish supper or all day breakfast £4-£6. Its not haute cuisine by any stretch, its not healthy sometimes. But it's cheap.

Moving up a little, a bit healthier maybe a table, maybe service.

Rose & Grants, Cheesy name but great grub. Often Veggie, table service and carry out. But a BLT to die for with coffee £6 ($5.70/E6.80), To take away. On the Trongate (where this phot was taken).

Paesano (Miller St, just off George Square) Best Pizza in Britain, seriously. No booking, just turn up. At busy times you may have to wait. But they use Nuclear powered ovens. sit down, two minutes you've a menu, four minutes you've ordered, six minutes you've got your meal, ten minutes you've eaten, five minutes you're gone. only sell Pizza, wine salad, deserts, eight standard Pizza's and specials, from £8.00 ($9.50/E9.00).
